Until the Light Takes Us is a feature length documentary chronicling the history, ideology and aesthetic of Norwegian black metal - a musical subculture infamous as much for a series of murders and church arsons as it is for its unique musical and visual aesthetics. This is the first (and only) film to truly shed light on a movement that has heretofore been shrouded in darkness and rumor and obscured by inaccurate and shallow depictions. Featuring exclusive interviews and verité with the musicians, a wealth of rare, seldom seen footage from the "Black Circle"s earliest days, Until the Light Takes Us explores every aspect of the controversial movement that has captured the attention of the world. This is the movie that gets inside the minds and hearts of black metal's musicians. The filmmakers moved to Norway, living and filming there for two years. The movie is not about them though - it's about the extraordinary people and events that make black metal unique, unforgettable, and inevitable. This is black metal as seen through the eyes of those who created it, of those who live it, of those who are at the center of the story of black metal. Featuring: Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, Varg Vikernes, Jan Axel "Hellhammer" Blomberg, Kjetil "Frost" Haraldstad, Ivar Bjornson, Abbath and Demonaz Doom Occulta, Kris "Garm" Rygg, Bjarne Melgaard, Harmony Korine, and more. The film, shot on 35 mm and dv, is directed and produced by Audrey Ewell and Aaron Aites. It is currently being edited in New York.

Naja, es gab ja nun schon einige Black Metal-Dokus, sogar einige auf YouTube, die nicht als DVD oder Video erschienen sind.

Ich zweifel auch daran, ob man von dieser Dokumentation soviel neues erwarten darf. Das Buch "Lords of Chaos" war schon recht ausgiebig.
Und wenn ich Namen wie "Varg Vikernes", "Jan Axel Blomberg" usw. usf. lese, erwarte ich auch nicht wirklich viel Neues.
Hört sich zwar interessant an, aber da ist mir ein Buch lieber.

Von Vikernes wirst du auch nicht viel Neues erfahren, der erlebt ja hinter norwegischen Gardinen nicht viel. 
Mal davon abgesehen, daß er sich nach seiner Haftentlassung total aus der "Öffentlichkeit" zurückziehen will.
Ansonsten wird halt wieder über die "gute alte Zeit" etwas geträllert und fertig ist die Sache. Entweder wird das ganze Theater wieder entmystifiziert oder es werden wieder neue Legenden geschürt, wobei ich letzteres bezweifle. BM ist tot und lebt nur noch nach durch seinen eigenen Mythos.

Das ehemalige BURZUM-Mastermind Varg Vikernes, auch bekannt als Count Grishnack sitzt bekanntermaßen in einem norwegischen Gefängnis seine 21-jährige Hafstrafe wegen des Mordes an dem MAYHEM-Gitarristen Oystein Aarseth ab. Nun wurde Vikernes eine vorzeitige Entlassung verwehrt, da das norwegische Justizministerium Vikernes als "zu gefährlich" einstuft und ihn als Gefahr für die Bevölkerung ansieht. Der 35-Jährige lamentiert derweil: "Ich verstehe das nicht. Sie wollen, dass ich mit der NVA (eine norwegische Arbeits- und Sozialhilfesorganisation) kooperiere, aber ich brauche das nicht. Muss ich erst ein Sozialfall werden, um entlassen zu werden? Ich habe ein Haus, einen Job und eine Familie, die mich erwartet." Zwei Drittel seiner Haftstrafe hat Vikernes bereits abgesessen, seine dritte beantragte Strafentlassung wurde ihm nun verwehrt. Von offzieller Seite heißt es, dass der "Graf" Beziehungen zu Neonazi-Gruppen habe und zudem im Jahre 2003 kurzzeitig aus dem Gefängnis geflohen sei. "Ich hatte für eine sehr lange Zeit keinen Kontakt mehr zu diesen Personen. Die norwegische Polizei weiß das ganz genau", beteuert Vikernes.
